The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it has no association with the Advance Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA).
The APDA was inaugurated on Monday by top PDP. Chieftains led by founder of DAAR Communications, Chief Raymond Dokpesi.
There have been speculations that the newly unveiled party is part of the plan B of Makarfi-led PDP, that in an event the Supreme Court judgment on the case between his faction and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff group fails to favour his faction, he and members loyal to him, will move over to APDA.
But in a statement the faction released through its national publicity secretary, Mr Dayo Adeyeye, on Monday in Abuja, the Makarfi group denied any link with APDA.
Adeyeye said, “For the avoidance of doubt, we reiterate once again that we are not in any way associated with the new political association in any form or guise.
“The APDA is neither an offshoot of the PDP nor its alter ego as some are speculating.
“This statement is made purely to set the records straight and to avoid unnecessary innuendos, speculations and ambiguity that may threaten the continued unity and solidarity of our party members.”
While the party appreciated well-meaning Nigerians who have been concerned over the happenings in PDP, Adeyeye said that “democracy cannot survive without a strong and vibrant opposition.”
